This is the 2nd book in the Wicked in Moonhaven Series. I have not read the first book and so my review is written about this as a stand alone book. I was surprised by how quickly I was drawn into this book. The main character is a young woman named Haley who is running a sandwich shop in a small town called Moonhaven. Haley has a small sandwich shop and bakery and is trying to lead a "normal" life after recently having amnesia and losing her memories. However, her grandmother is a sorceress who keeps sending her obstacles and spells in an attempt to get her to embrace her life as a witch. Moonhaven is no ordinary town. It is filled with goblins, fairies, hunters and a vampire friend. Haley finds her friend, Bentley, a vampire, arrested for a murder she is sure he didn't commit. Haley sets off to prove his innocence and learns a lot about herself along the way. Haley must ultimately choose whether to use magic to save herself from the story's antagonist.Haley is captivating and the characters in her story are amusing, intricate, and full of interesting character development. As an independent book, there is no synopsis or review of the previous novel and pieces of the past novel are released fairly slowly through this 2nd novel. There are obvious back stories to Haley's life with her friends, the Hunter police officer, and her family that aren't really explained.
Overall, it was a fun read; captivating and interesting. I just wish I had started this one with book one and wouldn't recommend picking this up as a stand alone novel.

I enjoyed this 2nd book in the series just as much as the first book. Haley's character is evolving. She is learning more about herself and her magical environment. The theme of not knowing who is friend continues in the 2nd book. I am enjoying the character development. The story (while perfectly ok as a standalone story) leaves enough unanswered questions to justify and create an interest in a continuation of this series.
I actually read this book twice without realizing it until I was a few chapters in to it! Enjoyed more the second time! Haley doesn't remember anything about her past but her Gran does! (She thinks) Haley befriends Bentley a vampire charged with murder! Everyone thinks he's guilty not Haley! As she goes about trying to prove it, she questions many towns people and gets herself into a few situations! Little romance, mystery, all in all a good story!
I really loved this story! It is about the granddaughter of a Sorceress, who is supposed to learn spells to become a witch. She doesn't want to. But Gran Ana sends her butler, Oliver, to deliver written spells when she should use them. Oliver usually shows up as a raven, a shape-shifter.
Haley lost her memory, but ends up in Moonhaven with humans, creatures, shape-shifters, gremlins, and a vampire, Bently, her best friend. She owns a bakery but isn't much of a morning person. She gets involved with the local police when Bently is accused of murder. It gets really good! You won't want to put the book down until you have finished it.
If you like Kristen Painter's Nocturn Falls series and Deanna Chase's Jade Calhoun series, you will love this series. This is the second book in the series but you don't have to read them in order to understand what's going on. And it keeps you guessing. I just loved this book. And there were moments I was just rolling with laughter at funny scenes. My favorite part was about the "gremlin" in the car. Lol. There was a real gremlin messing with the engine. There are all kinds of supernatural being in this town. I get such a great feel good happy feeling reading this author's books.
This book was interesting and fast paced. A good paranormal murder mystery. I downloaded this book for free, and I had not read any previous book(s) in the series. It should be read from the first as there was quite a bit that was inferred from previous book(s). It wasn't required to understand the book, it just would have been nice. I would definitely get the other books and finish the series as it has an interesting subplot that supplies more clues with each book.
It is a nice second story to what is going on in Haley’s life. She is still trying to get her memories back. She is still resisting being a witch. She cannot understand why Shane and her Grandmother want her to be one so bad. Well she can understand her Grandmother’s motive but not Shane’s, he is a hunter. Now she has found that her friend Bentley who is a Vampire needs her help and she puts herself on the line for him. It is a good read and you find yourself not sure who is doing what and who is responsible for the murder.
This book had lots of action. Haley continued to try to regain her lost memories and figure out who she could trust while also working at the newly-opened and renovated sandwich shop which her parents operated before their disappearance, as well as a food booth the mayor's wife had set up for her to run at the town festival without telling her anything about it. At least her best friend from high school, whom she didn't remember, showed up just in time to be hired as the chief baker. After Haley's vampire friend Bentley was arrested as a murder suspect, she took it upon herself to discover the identity of the real murderer. Naturally, she ended up in danger of being bitten by the evil vampire responsible for the deaths. With the help of some of her grandmother's spells, which she had tried to avoid learning or using, she managed to save herself and Bentley. Amazingly, both her strong-willed, occasionally interfering sorceress grandmother and Shane, the Hunter cop who protects the town, praise her efforts. I am looking forward to the next book in the series!
